Winter Plant Growing

Tuesday November 4
7-8pm
$15

Come join the Castleton Garden Club for an easy and fun way to grow perennial plants from seeds outdoors over the winter!

Winter sowing in plastic containers is a cost-effective way which uses nature's freeze and thaw cycles to induce germination. Plants grown this way are more vigorous and naturally acclimated to our spring temps vs. indoor growing which needs lights, warmth and good timing. Each participant will go home with 4 containers with choices of what you'd like as well as lists of seeds that do well with this technique. Carol Blazer studied Ornamental Horticulture @ State University of New York@ Farmingdale with the focus on landscape design. She created and maintained gardens on estates in Sands Point, NY. She also was Coordinator for Proctor Community Garden here in Vermont where she lived with her children.

Thursday November 27, 2025
8:00am

Join us before your Thanksgiving festivities for the Second Annual Castleton Turkey Trot 5k Run/Walk! This collaborative event between the Town of Castleton and the Friends of Castleton Parks and Recreation aims to bring our community together, highlight our beautiful town, and fundraise for recreation for all ages in Castleton. Awards will be presented to top finishers in each category, but we also encourage families and walkers to register. The race will start at 8am on Thanksgiving morning.

Course

The 5k course will have a mass start heading south on South St. from the intersection with Main St. in the village of Castleton. The course will head onto the Rail Trail for just over a mile before heading back to the village on South St and finish on Main St. The course is extremely flat. The Rail Trail in Castleton is gravel and most larger wheeled running strollers could easily manage the surface.

NOTE: We have been granted permission FOR THIS EVENT ONLY to use a private driveway to connect the Rail Trail to South Street at the aid station. Please respect these landowner's privacy at any other time.
