Programs
Weekly programming is offered by the Town of Castleton Parks and Recreation Department, and often in conjunction with the Friends of Castleton Park and Recreation. Programs are often seasonal and may last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. We try to be comprehensive below, but current programs and registration can also be found at the Town of Castleton Parks and Recreation webpage.
Open Basketball
Nov 23 - Dec 1
Stop by to informally use the gym for shooting, small pickup games, or whatever you wish! We may open future dates depending on participation, stay tuned.
Thursday Night Cornhole
Started October 3 through November

Stop by the Rec Center on Thursdays at 6:30p for some cornhole competition! Show up each week, or stop by one Thursday night. Bring $10 cash. No pre-registration required, just show up!
Adult Indoor Walking
Stop by our Recreation Facility at the former Castleton Village School from 9am until noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Active now through winter 2024-25.

* Open to individuals over age 18 unless otherwise authorized. The walking track is pre-set within the facility indicated by blue floor tape.

* No advanced sign-up or registration required.
​
* No cost associated with the activity but anonymous donations are welcome. A lock box will be provided at the sign in location for donations.

* Please be sure to sign and date our updated release of liability waiver for Recreation Department activities. Copies located at the sign in desk.
Adult Pickleball (Active Now)
Drop in to play a fun game of pickleball with others who love the game! Active all-year!
* Prior to playing, please purchase a play pass for either a single session or monthly access pass ONLINE HERE.

* To ensure an open spot on the courts, go to play time scheduler. Join (no fee) and look for the pickle ball (PB) sessions in Castleton (Teal colored circle). Make sure you choose to be notified of sessions being posted. Each session has a limit of 12 players and the weekly sessions are posted Sunday afternoon for the upcoming week. This is recreational pickle ball with all levels of play welcome.

Early Childhood Hour
Every Tuesday beginning October 15 through December 3rd
from 11am until 12pm

Early Childhood Hour, hosted by Vermont State University students in the Early Childhood Education program, takes place at Castleton Recreation Center (Formerly Castleton Village School) at 47 Mechanic Street, Castleton.
Designed for parents with young children in pre-kindergarten ages, parents will remain with enrolled children.
Cost is $5.00 per session, no one is turned away for lack of funds.

Noontime Walks on the Rail Trail
Friends of Castleton Parks & Recreation lead a walking group September through October on the Castleton Rail Trail from noon to 1pm every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
We will be starting on the rail trail at the crossing of South Street (VTSU) and walking south for 30 minutes, then returning to South Street. No pre-registration needed, just show up!

This is a continuation of the successful "Take Back the Trail" walking group that Brown's hosted last fall. Wear comfy shoes, bring water, and arrive a few minutes early to stretch. Please join "The Friends" as we continue this healthy and fun activity!
Introduction to Tai Chi
Beginning Tuesday October 22nd with Ted Day!
Weekly at 6pm

An eight week session of a Three Section Course on the basics of Tai Chi. Cost of the initial eight week session will be $10.00 per session, register here! Sign up for a single class, or the entire session.

Tai Chi can simply be defined as a walking meditation, a series of movements put together such as steps in a dance routine. For more information about Tai Chi, learn here!
Theater Auditions
Pride's Young Artists is collaborating with the Castleton Rec Department to bring Disney's The Little Mermaid to the stage January 2025!
Auditions are open to all actors Age 10 to 99+ on
Friday, October 11 5:30-8:30 AND
Saturday, October 12 9:30-12:00 and 2:00-5:00
